Where knowledge begins
Perplexity AI is a company focused on information discovery and sharing, offering two main products:
1. Conversational Search Engine: Essentially an "answer engine," it leverages natural language processing (NLP) to understand users' queries and provide concise, accurate answers backed by curated sources. Unlike traditional search engines that return lists of links, Perplexity summarizes the information and cites sources within the text. It also features:
Contextual awareness: Understands the conversation history and uses it to personalize results.
Follow-up questions: Allows users to ask follow-up questions in the same thread.
Multiple modes: Offers modes like "Copilot" for guided exploration, "Focus" for topic-specific searches, and "Writing" for generating text without web search.
Mobile apps: Available for iOS and Android for on-the-go searching.
2. Chatbot: Can engage in conversations and answer questions just like you're talking to a human.
Here are some key points about Perplexity AI:
Launched in 2022: A relatively new player in the search and AI space.
Technology: Powered by large language models, specifically OpenAI's GPT technology.
