Narrow AI
Narrow AI is AI built for a specific job, such as translating text or recognising faces. All AI that exists today is narrow AI.
Also called weak AI, artificial narrow intelligence, ANI
In more detail
A narrow AI system can be extremely good at its task, sometimes better than people, but it can’t transfer that skill to unrelated problems the way a person can.
Even very capable chatbots are usually described as narrow AI, because they still lack reliable common sense and real-world understanding. The opposite idea is artificial general intelligence.
Example
A chess program that beats world champions can’t drive a car or book a flight.
