Artificial intelligence (AI) is technology that lets computers do tasks that normally need human thinking, like understanding language or spotting patterns.

AI is a broad name for computer systems that can recognise speech, understand text, make predictions, create content or make decisions. Instead of following only hand-written rules, most modern AI learns from large amounts of examples, which is called machine learning.
Today’s AI is narrow AI: very good at specific jobs, but without general understanding of the world. The chatbots and image tools people use every day are a type of generative AI.
Example
When your phone sorts photos by the people in them, suggests the next word as you type, or a chatbot answers a question, AI is doing the work.
