Custom instructions
Custom instructions are standing preferences you give a chatbot, like your job or preferred style, so it applies them to every conversation.
Also called personalisation, personalization
In more detail
Rather than repeating “keep it short” or “I’m a beginner” in every chat, you write it once in the assistant’s settings. It works like a personal system prompt.
It differs from AI memory, where the assistant picks up facts during conversations on its own.
Example
“I’m a nurse in the UK. Use British spelling and keep answers under 200 words unless I ask for more.”
