Deepfake
A deepfake is a fake video, image or audio clip made with AI to show a real person saying or doing something they never did.
Also called deep fake, synthetic media
In more detail
Deepfakes use techniques like face swapping, voice cloning and GANs. They have legitimate uses in film and satire, but are also used for scams, harassment, non-consensual imagery and political misinformation.
To spot one, look for odd blinking, mismatched lighting or lip movements, and check whether trusted sources report the same thing. AI watermarking and content credentials help label genuine and synthetic media.
Example
A fake video of a company boss on a call asks an employee to make an urgent payment.
