Voice assistant
A voice assistant is an AI assistant you control by speaking, such as Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant, that answers questions and controls devices.
Also called voice AI, smart assistant
In more detail
A voice assistant listens for a wake word, uses speech recognition to turn your words into text, works out what you want, and replies with text to speech.
Newer voice modes in chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini can hold natural, interruptible conversations, a big step up from fixed commands.
Example
“Hey Siri, set a timer for ten minutes.”
