Sentiment analysis
Sentiment analysis is AI that works out the feeling behind a piece of text, such as whether a review is positive, negative or neutral.
Also called opinion mining
In more detail
It is a common natural language processing task. Businesses use it to sort large volumes of reviews, survey answers, support tickets and social media posts.
Sarcasm, slang and mixed opinions still trip it up, so results are best read as trends rather than exact judgements.
Example
A hotel chain runs sentiment analysis on 10,000 reviews and learns that complaints about breakfast doubled last month.
