Computer vision
Computer vision is the field of AI that lets computers understand images and video, such as recognising objects, faces or text in a photo.

Computer vision systems learn from huge collections of labelled pictures. Many are built on convolutional neural networks or, more recently, transformers adapted for images.
It powers facial recognition, optical character recognition, medical image analysis and the cameras in self-driving cars.

Searching your photo library for “dog” and getting every picture of your dog is computer vision at work.
