AI glossary · Agents and automation
Computer use
Computer use is when an AI agent operates a computer or web browser like a person does: looking at the screen, clicking, typing and scrolling.
Also called browser agent, computer-using agent, AI browser
In more detail
Instead of relying on special connections, the agent works through the same interface you see. That means it can use websites and apps that have no API.
It is slower and more error-prone than direct connections, and a malicious web page could try prompt injection, so these agents usually pause for approval on purchases, logins and other sensitive steps.
Example
Asking an agent to fill in an online form using details from a PDF.
