Deep research
Deep research is a feature in AI assistants where an agent spends several minutes searching many sources and writes a detailed, cited report on your question.
Also called AI research agent, research mode
In more detail
Rather than answering from one quick search, the agent plans what to look for, reads dozens of pages, follows leads and then writes up what it found with references. Several assistants offer it under similar names.
Reports can be thorough but may still include outdated or misread information, so spot-check the key sources.
Example
“Compare the running costs of heat pumps and gas boilers for a three-bedroom house.”
