AI regulation
AI regulation is the set of laws and rules governments create to manage the risks of AI, such as the EU AI Act.
Also called EU AI Act, AI law, AI governance
In more detail
The EU AI Act, which entered into force in 2024 with obligations phasing in over the following years, sorts AI uses by risk. It bans some, such as social scoring, sets strict rules for high-risk uses like hiring, and requires transparency, for example labelling deepfakes.
Other countries take different approaches, from sector-specific rules to voluntary guidelines, and the landscape is changing quickly.
