AI Overviews
AI Overviews are the AI-written summaries Google shows at the top of some search results, with links to the pages they draw on.
Also called Google AI Overviews, Search Generative Experience, SGE
In more detail
Google tested the feature as the Search Generative Experience before launching AI Overviews widely in 2024. They are generated by Gemini models from pages in Google’s index.
They can be handy for quick answers but have produced well-publicised errors, so treat them like any other AI search answer and check the linked sources.
