Synthetic data
Synthetic data is artificial data generated by computers, often by AI, to train or test models when real data is scarce, expensive or private.
In more detail
It can fill gaps, such as rare medical cases or unusual driving situations, and protect privacy because no real person’s records are used.
Synthetic data inherits the flaws of whatever produced it. Training models mostly on AI-generated content can gradually reduce quality, an effect researchers call model collapse.
