AI jailbreak
An AI jailbreak is a prompt designed to trick a chatbot into ignoring its safety rules and producing content it is meant to refuse.
Also called jailbreaking, jailbreak prompt
In more detail
Jailbreaks often use role-play, hypothetical framing or long, confusing instructions. AI companies patch known jailbreaks, and new ones keep appearing.
It is related to, but different from, prompt injection, where hidden instructions come from content the AI reads rather than from the user.
