Completion
A completion is the text an AI model writes in response to a prompt. The term comes from models “completing” the text they are given.

Early language models literally continued whatever text you typed. Chat models work the same way underneath: your conversation is the start, and the reply is the completion.
Developers still see the word in API documentation, where you send a prompt and receive a completion, and pay for both in tokens.
